What We Do

The primary function of the MMMCA is to act as the collective bargaining unit for its member companies.  Work covered by the Association’s members are set forth in its three collective bargaining agreements with the ILA.  The present agreements first took effect on January 1, 2019 and will stay in effect through December 31, 2024.   Those agreements include:

  1. MMMCA-ILA Container Maintenance and Repair Agreement (maintenance and repair of cargo handling equipment, chassis, marine terminal facilities, etc.)
  2. MMMCA-ILA Ship Maintenance Agreement (lashing/unlashing of freight on board cargo vessels)
  3. MMMCA-ILA Weighmasters Agreement

In addition to acting as collective bargaining unit, the Association also conducts the following business on behalf of its member companies:

  1. administering healthcare programs, retirement plans and fringe benefits for its ILA participants;
  2. participating in joint action committees related to port productivity and contract compliance;
  3. is an active voice in issues of legislative policy as they relate to the maritime industry;
  4. and is wholly committed to safety in the Port.

Skills Training:    The Association also conducts training courses and certification programs for its members, which are offered to new and existing employees of both of the ILA and management and are geared towards industry specific needs.  The training covers a wide variety of subject matter related to container repair, chassis repair, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, refrigeration systems, welding, and any other needs to ensure that its members will provide the best possible services to their customers and promote excellence in the Port.
